Let the colour tell you. A Velvé Pro cartridge starts white and darkens as it holds back what it has taken out of your water. Once it has gone deeply brown, it is full — swap it for a fresh one.

How fast that happens comes down to your water quality and how much you shower. With regular use, most people are fitting a new cartridge about once a week, so it is worth a glance whenever you are in there.

A loaded filter cannot keep doing the job. Velvé Pro's 18-stage filtration system is third-party tested to remove 99.9% of harmful contaminants such as chlorine and heavy metals, and a fresh cartridge is what holds that performance where it should be:

• Activated carbon removes 99% of chlorine, helping stop dryness and irritation.
• PP cotton catches rust, sediment and debris, for cleaner-looking water.
• Mineral stone restores good minerals, for hydrated skin and shiny hair.

Between them the stages take out chlorine, heavy metals, rust, sand and other impurities before the water reaches your skin and hair.

1. Turn off the water. Shut off the water supply to your shower.
2. Unscrew the showerhead. Turn the lower half of the head counterclockwise and lift it away.
3. Remove the old filter. Pull the used cartridge out and discard it.
4. Prepare the new filter. Take the bottom part off the new cartridge — the showerhead only closes up securely with it removed.
5. Insert the new filter. Seat it in the same spot the old one came out of.
6. Reattach the showerhead. Turn the lower half back on clockwise until it is snug.
7. Test the water. Turn the supply back on and check nothing is leaking.
8. Enjoy. Your shower is ready with a fresh filter.
